Thick, Uniform, Clean, Elegant and Protective
The roof is the most important part of a property when it comes to shelter and outdoor protection. While there are many types of products, materials like cedar tapersawn shakes provide shelter as well as an appeal that is similar and complementary to cedar siding shingles.
Tapersawn shakes are sawn smooth and uniform like a shingle but bundled and applied like a shake.
The photo above shows Premium Grade Blue Label 18″ x 5/8″ Tapersawn shakes applied at 7-1/2″ exposure, (45cm x 16mm at 19cm exposure.) Tapersawn shakes are a hybrid of sawn shingles and hand-split shakes. Like a shingle, both faces are sawn, as are the edges, giving the tapersawn shake a uniform appearance. Thicker than shingles, tapersawn shakes have a heavier shadow line on the roof or wall.
Tapersawn shakes are packaged 5 bundles per roofing square – 100 sq.ft. (9.3 m2). They are applied like a hand-split shake using a felt paper interlay between each row with recommended exposures of 7-1/2″ for 18″ shakes and 10″ for 24″ shakes. This allows for application as quick and efficient as standard shakes, while providing the uniformity, structural integrity, and natural appeal more commonly found in shingles.;
It is now common to apply the Premium Grade Blue Label 18″ x 5/8″ Tapersawn shakes on the roof like a No.1 Blue Label 18″ Perfection shingle – 5-1/2″ exposure, 3-ply roof. This makes for a great, solid roof construction! Love your roof. To complete the natural look for your home and get excellent protection from the elements, you can complement the cedar tapersawn shakes with cedar shingles siding.
