Maze Stainless Steel Nails are made from a careful mix of
steel, nickel and chrome. Although more expensive than hot-dipped galvanized
fasteners, stainless steel is a far better option for projects subject to marine
exposure and other extreme weather conditions.
When to use Stainless Steel...
While the Cedar Shake & Shingle Bureau specifies Hot-Dipped Zinc Coated
Nails as a minimum nail requirement, there are certain applications where
stainless steel nails are preferable to even Double Hot-Dipped Zinc-Coated Maze
STORMGUARDŽ Nails.
- In Marine Environments (within 5 miles (8km) of the
seacoast), stainless steel nails will perform best against the constant
exposure to salt spray and fog.
- For Cedar & Redwood products (siding and
decking), where the wood is left natural or treated with a clear wood
finish, stainless steel nails are recommended. Stainless steel seems to have
less potential for reaction with the natural tannins (extractives) found in
these woods.
- Severe or Corrosive Conditions, such as fertilizer
storage buildings, salt storage buildings and the like.
