The term "Royals" refers to all red cedar shingles that are
24" (610mm) in length, in all grades. These shingles are all 1/2"
(12.5mm) thick, (nominal - in all grades). The recommended exposure for a
24" shingle roof is 7-1/2" (190mm) for a 3-ply, water tight
construction.
24" Royal shingles have a proud heritage and have been used for many,
many decades in many areas of the US Northeast, most prevalently in the
Philadelphia, PA area. This trend continues still today.
Like 18" Perfections, Royals are remanufactured in to "Re-butted
and Re-jointed" Sidewall Shingles. These
products are commonly used in the Pennsylvania and New York State markets.
