CCA, (chromated copper arsenate) is widely used to
treat many wood products against the agents of decay and insect attack. Copper
acts to inhibit the growth of moss, fungus, mildew and other vegetation.
Arsenate is poison to any insects or vermin that attack wood. Chromate permanently fixes
this chemical to the cells of the wood during
the pressure impregnation treatment process. In all cases, all treatment plants
maintain strict guidelines set out by their local environmental agencies.
For a very small fraction of the total cost a new cedar roof,
CCA treatments can double the life expectancy of that roof. The treatment is
done only once prior to shipment and application. Subsequent treatments for the
growth of moss and/or fungus are rarely needed.
A 30 year limited warranty is supplied by the treatment
company against premature rot and decay. Please contact us for more information
on this warranty.
We highly recommend that new cedar roofs being applied in
areas of high heat and humidity be CCA treated. In cases where a roof has been
CCA treated, we also recommend the use of Stainless Steel nails as fasteners.
